End of an era

Today marks the end of an era in our household.

Our baby - Josh - is finishing Grade 6 which means the end of the line at our little (well not so little now) primary school.

So many different feelings are going through my mind at the moment (hence me not being able to sleep and getting out of bed to type this post at 2.06am.................)

Must try and dig out some photos to pop up here for you to look at.

Gosh they grow up fast.

12 Days of Christmas - Day 9

12 Days of Christmas - Day 3

For day 3 let's make a quick set of 3 cards. You can make them all the same or you can make them slightly different. If you are using a stamped image - stamp it 3 times while you have to stamp all inked up. It makes it a lot easier to have stamped images all set to go then you can just attach them to a card nice and easy.

Enjoy.

Some Felt and An Old Envelope

That's right. I used some felt shapes and the inside of a window faced envelope - you know those lovely envelopes that bills come in? Yep the same ones.

I just added a doodled border using a red marker, stamped my sentiment and attached the sticky backed felt in place. This would have to be one of the fastest cards I've ever made.

Handmade Roses

Here's some cards I created a few months back. They were going to be for a Card Class but it didn't go ahead. So here they are for your viewing now. As you can see - plenty of rustic stuff goin' on. My latest thing is to staple my daisies in place - it's easy and effective.

I love the pp and the little flowers were so easy to make.
Thanks for looking.

An oldie but a goodie.........You R The Apple Of My Eye

I was going back over some of my fave projects and came across this OTP that I completed at Scrapz Biz going back to March. You know when you're really proud of yourself for doing something.........well this is one of them.
We had to create a framed work of art and include a shape of some sort - like a heart - I chose an apple of course!!!!! I hand drew the apple on to thick cardboard, cut it out and then went ahead and used a lot of red buttons to cover the apple. I was really pleased how it turned out.

I used Sassafrass Lass and October Afternoon pp's, mixed alphas, tickets and one of my fave photos of Sean and the kids taken outside Myer Windows at Christmas a couple of years ago.

Good times!!!!!

Luv Sandie

Here's some more........

I forgot to upload these a little while ago too. These were challenges from Scrapz Biz. The holly card was a sketch challenge for this week.

Scrapz Biz

A little while ago I completed a challenge over at Scrapz Biz - actually I just remembered it was a Melbourne Cup challenge.

Here is my take on the challenge using the charming photo of me dressed up as Dame Edna.............LOL!!!! The things we do.

5 YEAR BIRTHDAY

A BIG Happy Birthday goes out to Nicole at Craft Queen. Congrats Nicole. If you haven't paid a visit to Nicole's place before, well....................then what are you waiting for? She has the bestest range of ribbons and she just so happens to stock some of my NEW Li'l Daisies along with stacks of other goodies.

What’s Been Happening?????????

Here I am again. Back with updates.

It's all happening in the Downey household.

Not 1 but 3 new jobs in our house.

I can officially tell you now that I have a casual job at the Scrapbook Lady in Pakenham. This is ULTRA exciting - but not only me - Emily has a little job there too just putting things away, pricing etc. How cool!!!!!

And the 3rd job goes to..........................Sean. He has officially resigned from Bunnings after nearly 10 years and is now the Store Manager of Darren Spargo's Photography in town. We are all very excited about Sean's new move - big decision - but it will great to have him working locally instead of travelling each day. He will start early December - right in time for the Silly Season!!!!!

So there you go - we all went out last night to celebrate - drinks all round!!!!

So hence that is why I haven't been updating my blog as much lately - flat out having fun. I am absolutely loving my job and look forward to the days I work. Yay!!!!!

Speaking of work - I created a Sketch Challenge which runs from November up til the week before Christmas. We are promoting our NEW Mini Banner - customers come in, make a small purchase, pick up their FREE Mini Banner and sketch challenge, go home, create a layout, bring it back into the store and then it will be judged by someone independent and they will win a hamper of goodies. Pretty cool huh?

sketch challenge1

I know a lot of you are not locals - but you can always just join in the sketch challenge. Just follow the sketch and leave me a link to your creation. Would love to see what you create. (Having troubles updating the sketch as it’s in Word format – if I can I shall convert it and share with you, otherwise you can just follow my basic layout)

I have added the banner - just kept most of it in the raw chipboard and then embossed the little scalloped trims. This is little Stephen's first Christmas. I just adore this photo.

(On the baby front - our gorgeous Sudanese friends - George and Medina are expecting baby no. 3 just before Christmas - how exciting!!!!)

Well that' it from me. I will be popping in pretty randomly with any updates of as my mum used to say as we walked through the door "any news, notes or gossip?"................LOL.

Luv ya.

Scrap That Ad Challenge over at Scrapz Biz

Over the last 6 weeks I've joined in the fun over at Scrapz Biz  They have been having a great little challenge where we had to be inspired by a certain ad on TV - some going back to when I was growing up.  We had certain criteria to follow and we had to create a layout for each of the 6 weeks.  I had lots of fun as I haven't been doing a lot of creating of late.

Here are my layouts

Week 1  I still call Australia home

scrapad1

For this layout I have used all bits and pieces – old slides, Australian flag toothpicks turned into a banner, coloured matchsticks and other bits and pieces

Week 2  We're Happy Little Vegemites

scrapad2

For this layout I have used all things Vegemite – I ripped a label off a Vegemite jar and stuck that down I even used the yellow ring from the top of the jar.

Week 3  Not Happy Jan

scrapthatad3

For this layout we needed to use a page from a book – so I used an old children’s nursery rhyme book that I picked up at an op-shop – it was falling apart anyway so I didn’t feel bad about wrecking it.

Week 4  Life Be In It

scrapthatad4

For this layout we needed to create something inspired by the Life Be In It ad so I went with some great photos of Josh on his unicycle and one of my new Li’l Daisies

Week 5  Dove

scrapad5

For this layout we needed to be inspired by the Dove ad – I went with the theme that beauty is all around us.  I did some serious recycling for this layout – I re-used the inside of window envelopes – I even stuck my photo behind the window face…LOL, old playing card, clothes labels, old stamps, bread tags etc.

Week 6  Tim Tam Genie Ad

scrapthatad6

And for the last ad we had to think of 3 wishes – I explained that my 3 wishes have already come true – first to find Sean and have the fairytale wedding, second to have 3 beautiful healthy children and then to buy our very first home – our family home where we are all living happily – happily ever after.   We are truly blessed

So there you have it – this was a very challenging and enjoyable challenge – certainly made me step out of my comfort zone.

Thanks for looking.

Rest In Peace Grandma

Have you been wondering where I've been?

I've been here all the time - just having a little break from things trying to get myself right.

I am still having the ongoing problems with my feet/shins/knees - I changed to another physio and have found out a few problems - but they all can be fixed - it's just going to take some time and some hard work. So that is good.

I also found out about a month ago that I now have Diabetes 2 - I have been on the borderline for a couple of years - but now it's the real thing. Just a few diet changes and exercise - all that kind of stuff.

On a sad note - my grandmother (dad's mum) passed away last friday. She turned 95 years old last month - she was pretty fit up til the last couple of months which is totally amazing.

We had her send off today which was really nice and I got to catch up with lots of relatives that I hadn't seen for about 15 - 20 years. Amazing.

I have attached a layout I did about 3 or 4 years ago. This is my grandma and her twin brother. Great photo. Must get some more photos out to scrap.

So for now - I shall be popping in a little more regularly I hope - life is busy and I'm trying to prioritise things a little better.

I hope all is well in your part of the world!!!!!!

WHAT CAN YOU DO???????

What can you do with my new Handmade Daisies "Li'l Daisies" range?

Here are some samples I popped up on my Handmade Daisies Blog.

Card Samples Echo Park Summertime 5 Card Samples Echo Park Summertime 1
Card Samples Echo Park Summertime 3 Card Samples Echo Park Summertime
Card Samples Echo Park Summertime 2 Card Samples Echo Park Summertime 4

I have designed the mixed packs to match the newly released ranges from CHA Summer 2010 in America (and a few older ranges too)

The mixed packs can also be used for everyday purposes as well - not JUST the new releases.

The first 2 cards are using Echo Park Sweet Summertime paper range (which I just love) and the last card was created using the same mixed pack but just using bits and pieces from my own stash.  The ideas are endless.

I have come to like attaching my daisies using good old glue dots – firstly they do a good job and secondly – I’m lazy – I like quick results…….LOL!!!  Another way I way I attach them too is to use a stapler – just a couple of staples on a couple of petals and voila!!!!

Thanks for your support with my little business - it means a lot to me.

Luv Sandie

How are you going with your Christmas In July cards?

Hmmm how are you going? You still have time - challenge is open until 23rd August.

I am still tryinig to work through mine. Have been a little busy creating my new handmade daisy range so I suppose I have an excuse. I am still determined to get them done though.

Good luck. Don't forget there's some little prizes up for grabs.

Check these out....................

Just wanted to share a couple of links to YouTube - our family have watched these a couple of times now and we love them so I thought I'd share the love with ya.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qybUFnY7Y8w this one is very clever - just imagine how long it would have taken to set up.

And this next one is just too funny. It's for an ad in America.

There is an ad in Australia at the moment which is supposed to be a take off of this ad. I prefer the American one for sure.
